Future is now, Drug Repositioning

Serious infections caused by bacteria that have become resistant to commonly used antibiotics have become a major global healthcare problem in the 21st century. They not only are more severe and require longer and more complex treatments, but they are also significantly more expensive to diagnose and to treat. One way to combat with antibiotic resistance is new antibiotic development, but drug discovery is a time-consuming, high-investment,  laborious and high-risk process in traditional drug development. Now it is more than three decades we've developed no new class of antibiotics. Different from traditional drug development strategies, DRUG REPOSITIONING is efficient, economical and riskless. Drug repositioning goes for capturing new uses for old drugs. In the current PhD project the RESISTANT bacteria successfully are pushed to be SENSITIVE by using 6 Drugs/SmallMolecules.
